Our Mission

Our mission is to de-stigmatize, revolutionize and redefine what it means to have mental health  or struggle with mental illness(es). Our mission is to unequivocally demonstrate the  imperativeness of self-care and self-love both when it comes to others and oneself. Our mission  is to educate and empower as many individuals as possible to identify when someone is  struggling to provide support and direct them to potentially life-saving resources. Our mission is  to build a nationwide mental health community by collaborating with charities and community  organizations who work at the intersection of mental health and other extremely important  factors that impact quality of life such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status. Our mission is  to affect and facilitate systemic change within the Canadian mental health care system to ensure  every student, no matter their socioeconomic status, can access the help they need.

Our Vision

A society where mental health is valued just as much as physical health, a team of thousands of  mental health advocates across Canada working to eradicate the stigma around mental health and  demonstrating that mental health and mental illnesses are nothing to be ashamed of; to reach our  fundraising goal of $1,000,000 and facilitate systemic change within the Canadian mental health  care system; communities using an intersectional approach when it comes to mental health and  mental health programming; Step Above Stigma chapters at every high school, college, and  university across Canada.

Our Values

Equity
It is paramount to us that everyone on our team, community, and network is treated equitably and that individual concerns and needs are always prioritized.
Inclusion
Step Above Stigma’s constitution is written on the grounds that no one shall be excluded from  our team, mission or community both formally and informally.
Intersectionality
Mental health is not health at all without taking intersectionality into account. Thus, we utilize an  intersectional approach to ensure our events are as accessible and impactful as they can possibly  be.
Empathy
Through everything we do we ensure we have empathy at the core of our mission, both in our team and through interactions with our communities.
Collaboration
The best solutions come from listening to everyone in the room and collaborating openly and  compassionately. At Step Above Stigma we seek to empower leaders in our community to  collaborate at every opportunity.
Diversity
The Step Above Stigma team and chapters embrace and celebrate diversity and the power  different perspectives and life experiences bring to mental health advocacy.
Creativity
At Step Above Stigma we seek to innovate our solutions creatively by trying our best to assess needs  in our community and implementing creative events, campaigns, initiatives and fundraisers.
Social Responsibility
Our human resources department and team are trained through the year to learn more about what  it means to lead responsibly and equitably. Moreover, all Step Above Stigma events, initiatives,  campaigns and fundraisers are assessed to determine unintentional ramifications as well as  accessibility limitations. Our team prioritizes responsibility especially as we grow into new  communities.
